When the duty takes effect, employers are expected to choose from a list of recommended actions, with at least one on the gender pay gap and at least one on menopause.
Options include manager training, occupational health advice, support groups, workplace adjustments, risk assessments and policy reviews.
Any employer breaching the duty could be publicly named.
The risk that already exists
Regardless of size, current equality law already protects menopausal employees. Menopause is not a standalone protected characteristic, but depending on symptoms, it can constitute a disability.
