Since remote working has became such a desirable aspect of working life, it has seen some teams become disconnected.

Any Google search will provide you with hundreds, if not thousands, of employee engagement techniques and initiatives that you can achieve with remote workers.

So, we interviewed Sarah Warburton, Head of Culture at independent wealth management & financial planning firm, Equilibrium. She gave us real-life insights into the techniques that had been introduced, why they chose these particular initiatives and how it really impacted their employees.

What have Equilibrium introduced to keep remote employee engagement high?

We’ve initiated water cooler Wednesdays where we invite a randomly selected group of people from the business to a 30 minute Teams chat where we discuss favourite sandwiches, death row meals, anything really! We knew that people could sometimes be sat at their desks, alone, for long stretches of time and that people missed the impromptu nature of chatting to someone whilst making a cup of tea or getting a drink so we thought we’d instigate it and it’s proved really helpful!

How has it impacted Equilibrium’s people?

Feedback from the team has been extremely positive. We have enjoyed high event participation demonstrates people’s engagement for the events we’ve put on. Our staff retention was 96% over the COVID period! Our happiness survey has seen 98% of the team saying that Equilibrium was looking after their wellbeing really well, 98% of the team felt well connected which was a fabulous result.
